The capital of the Republic of Albania, Tirana is sited just 300 feet above sea level at the foot of Dajti Mountain. The city was founded in 1614 and consisted of a mosque, bathhouse, a bakery and some shops. It became a major market town specializing in silk, cotton cloth, leather, ceramics, metals and silver. A brief panoramic drive introduces you to the city.
Watch for Skanderbeg Square before visiting the Ethem Bey Mosque, built in 1789, and the clock tower, which stands 100 feet tall.

The Dajti Express Cable Car promises a scenic ride from Tirana to its upper station near the top of the 5,300-foot-tall mountain. Take in views of the mountain and the city as you swoop over pastures, a lake and steep rocks to a recreation area some 4,000 feet above sea level.
